The “llamichus” and “pacocheros” (Andean sheepherders) inheritors of one of the few remaining pastoralist societies in the world, and Auqui M. S. have come together to create an experience designed to satisfy free spirited travellers in sea rch of a  challenge with comfort and style. This trip is aimed for those interested in sustainable tourism, learning about the Andean geological history, observing wild vicuñas and other highland fauna.

Director Roger Valencia from Auqui M. S., and Orlando Garcia, president of the Chillca community, have forged a strong relationship through many years of climbing expeditions. After much discussion, they decided to tackle an ongoing question; “How would it be possible to generate new sources of sustainable development for the up-coming generations?” Their conclusion was simple: by protecting and conserving the incredible beauty hidden in these mountains, while making them accessible to travellers from around the world, these communities would be able to preserve and improve their lifestyles.

The Andean Lodges of “El Camino Del Apu Ausangate” Is a sustainable, socially motivated business venture. We will be opening operations in 2007, thanks to the trust of our investors: Mr. Jimmy Hanson, Mr. Piero Morosini and the Swiss-based “Fondation Terre”, Mrs. Ch’aska Samorani, Mrs. Bonnie Pierson, Mr. Robert Dunlop & Mrs. Nancy Sparling, Mr. Allison Mc. Cain, as well as the efforts of the special project “Corredor Puno Cusco” and its director, Mr. Cesar Sotomayor.
